Band 5 Nurse Jobs with Visa Sponsorship
Entry-level NHS staff nurse posts open to overseas nurses under the Health and Care Worker visa.
About Band 5 Nurse sponsorship
Band 5 is the standard entry grade for newly qualified registered nurses in the NHS. Almost every NHS trust holds a Worker sponsor licence, so Band 5 staff nurse posts are the single largest sponsored occupation in the UK.
Band 5 sits comfortably above the immigration salary list threshold for nurses, so sponsorship is straightforward provided the role is substantive (not bank, agency or zero-hour). The Health and Care Worker visa applies — no Immigration Health Surcharge, discounted fees, and dependants are also IHS-exempt.
You will need NMC registration. Most trusts will issue a Certificate of Sponsorship once you have passed the CBT, then support OSCE prep and cover fees once you arrive in the UK.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Band 5 meet the sponsorship salary threshold?
- Yes. Band 5 starts at £28,407 (2024/25) which exceeds the nurse-specific going rate on the immigration salary list. All UK regions are covered.
- Can I move to Band 6 while on a sponsored visa?
- Yes — a promotion to Band 6 requires a Change of Employment update to the Home Office via your sponsor, but does not require a fresh visa application.
